Impresa Ronzoni supporting innovation: new structures for the drone stations on the A7

Monitoring the motorway network from above, in real time, in a matter of seconds. This is the aim of the pilot project launched by Milano Serravalle – Milano Tangenziali on the A7 motorway, which entrusts traffic monitoring and the management of critical events to remotely piloted drones. Impresa Ronzoni contributed to the project by building the protective and containment structures for the automated stations installed along the network.

Innovation, infrastructure and road safety come together along the A7 Milano–Serravalle motorway.

Milano Serravalle – Milano Tangenziali has launched a pilot project for traffic monitoring using remotely piloted drones, with the aim of strengthening its capacity to oversee the network and responding to critical events even more promptly.

Impresa Ronzoni contributed to this innovative project by building the protective and containment structures for the drones’ automated stations.

The structures were installed at selected points along the motorway network to house the so-called “nests”: systems in which the drones are stored and recharged, and from which they take off to carry out monitoring missions.

The two aircraft are stationed near the Milano Ovest toll barrier and cover the Bereguardo–Pavia motorway link. Operated remotely from the Traffic Control Centre, they can be airborne within roughly 100 seconds of a mission request and transmit images and information in real time.

Accidents, congestion, fires, obstacles on the carriageway and checks on the condition of the infrastructure can therefore be observed quickly from above, giving operators an additional tool to assess events and organise action on the ground.

Infrastructure serving technology

Behind innovation there are also works and structures that make it genuinely usable on the ground.

This is where Impresa Ronzoni’s work comes in, putting its expertise in road infrastructure and services at the service of a project that looks to the mobility of the future. It is an intervention that captures the evolution of our sector: traditional infrastructure and new technologies working together to build a road network that is increasingly safe, efficient and digital.

Because building roads also means contributing to the innovation of the infrastructure we travel on every day.
